1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Lovely multicolor design showing Mines & Metallurgy Building on 1904 cover franked with 1903 2¢ lightly cancelled with indistinct Tennessee town postmark alongside, slightly reduced at right, Very Fine.

Lot 333    

1909 Centennial Exhibition. Large violet oval "Centennial Parade R.P.O., Oct 7 1909, St. Louis, Mo." postmark ties 1¢ adhesive to picture post card depicting Balloon and Airship contests held during the centennial, Very Fine and scarce.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

This is the first U.S. postal marking ever issued to celebrate a parade. Despite the R.P.O. designation the vehicle was actually a horse drawn Missouri Pacific mail coach on wagon wheels. The marking was used for one day only.
