[Oregon] Umatilla, Oregon. Strong strike of lower portion of oval postmark handstamp with manuscript "Aug 15/65" date on cover to Ruby City, I.T., franked with 1861 3¢ rose tied by grid cancel, Extremely Fine, one of the finest examples of this makeshift postmark.

Intentionally struck to only show only the lower portion of handstamp, this 'provisional' Oregon postmark was derived from the use of a merchant handstamp.
