Oval postmark (Williams SAC-2480) on 1850 folded letter to Connecticut with red crayon "40" rate, letter written by miner from Placerville, "Today is a snowy day & I am in a log cabin in what is called Hangtown on account of 3 men being hung here last year", lengthy letter tells of hardships and adventures of the miner's life, "If I had kept a daily journal of my life & fair (?) since I first start for the diggings from the ship it would be more interesting to you than all the novels in Connecticut.", some toning & edge wear, Fine and rare.

Sacramento, Cal. (Sacramento). Oval postmark (Williams SAC-2480) on 1850 folded letter to "Genl. John Wilson, Navy Agent, San Francisco" & datelined "Old Dry Diggins, March 28, 1850" with matching bold "12½" rate handstamp, letter regarding investment money in San Francisco, "We have it reported that Mess. Waid & Co. with whom we left our little sum of money have failed in business and that Mr. W. had atemped to commit suicide by shooting himself.", letter later states, "Direct your letter to us at Coloma of 'Sutters Mill'…", cover with couple of toned spots, Very Fine and choice.
