Lot 21    

San Francisco, Cal/Apr 21/3 PM/ 1906. Machine cancel (Williams SAF 3000) without postage to San Francisco, letter written from wounded civilian from a railroad car at San Mateo, on legal size Southern Pacific RR form for meal service, talks of eating well but no medical help until they get to Sacramento (note roundabout route the rails had to take via San Mateo) hopefully in a day or two, please send $10 and underwear, etc., Very Fine.

Lot 22    

[San Francisco] Post card from Fort Humboldt, Eureka, California. Written aboard the S.S. Roanoke on April 12, 1906, entered mails at San Francisco April 16th without postage and sent to the Dead Letter Office with double circle postmark of April 17th, earthquake occurred on the April 18th and couldn't be cleared by P.O. for two weeks, mailed again on May 6, 1906 and received in Pasadena May 7th, Very Fine, an amazing survivor of the fire after the earthquake, the only Dead Letter Office earthquake related cover the owner has seen.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Lot 23    

San Francisco, Cal/Apr 20/1 PM/ 1906. Machine cancel (Williams SAF 3000) without postage to Brooklyn, N.Y. on a blank post card sized piece of thin cardboard, message starts out "Dear Mother. I write you these few to let you know that I am one of the Lucky ones", goes on to say the fire is partly contained and has little to eat, Very Fine, mailed the first day that the post was open in San Francisco.

Lot 24    

San Francisco, Cal. "1" in manuscript on postcard to New Haven, Conn with 1¢ postage due (#J38), this is contrary to the P.O. instruction that mail from San Francisco that mail did not have to have stamps, New Haven P.O. disregarded the "1" of the manuscript postmark and collected the 1¢ anyway, Very Fine, a rare usage.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

San Francisco, Cal/Apr 22/transit/ 1906. Postmark (Williams SAF Unlisted, but 1st class usage of Transit mark) without postage to Cordelia, on blank postcard size cardboard, with crease done middle and corner creases, message informing they are all right and don't come down, F.-V.F.

San Francisco, Cal/Apr23/11-AM/1906. Machine cancel (Williams unlisted but similar to SAF-3030) on cover to Ross Valley and forwarded to San Anselmo, received at Ross on April 25 and forwarded April 26, Very Fine.

San Francisco Earthquake lot. 17 items of ephemera comprising, 2 great notes on postcards from May 1 and May 30, 1906 first tells of "losing most everything" the other (a Ruins of San Francisco from Post Street Post Card) "electric car line are running", cooked outside for 4 weeks, etc., an Earthquake Relief Fund Label from Chicago, 5 Post Cards of San Francisco with 4 inscribed "before fire of 1906", Post card of Los Angeles Relief Organization bound for San Francisco, a comic postcard, 2 scarce double fire postcards and 5 miscellaneous postcards, Very Fine overall, some very scarce items.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Western Union Telegram. New York telegram cover with original enclosure datelined "Apr 20, 1906" from Stanford University with message "Earthquake ruined buildings All safe Telephone papa written", cover roughly opened at left, Fine, a early earthquake telegram.
