Thunderbolt Rifle. Very rare early illustrated design in black on cover showing Cocked & Uncocked Thunderbolt Rifles, franked with 1861 3¢ tied by target cancel with Detroit, Mich. double circle postmark alongside, Extremely Fine and choice, ex-Biddle, where this cover realized $375 = 10% buyer's premium in 1982, this being the third highest price for any gun cover in that important sale.

Webley & Scott, Sporting Guns, Rifles, Revolvers, Automatic Pistols. Multicolor illustrated design on 1927 cover used in India showing Tiger & Hunting Rifle, franked with India 1a tied by violet boxed Airmail handstamp "By Light Aeroplane with Messrs. Stack & Leete" handstamp, reverse with "Royal Air Force Display/Lahoe" postmark, Extremely Fine, a stunning cover.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Webley and Scott is an arms manufacturer based in Birmingham, England. Webley produced handguns and long guns from 1834. The company ceased to manufacture firearms in 1979 and now produces air pistols and air rifles.

Webley is famous for the revolvers and automatic pistols it supplied to the British Empire's military, particularly the British Army from 1887 through both World War I and World War II.

"Tramps Terror", franked with 3¢ Bank Note tied by cork cancel with Chicago, Ill. cds at bottom left, dramatic design with advertising text which includes, "Tramps, Burglars and Thieves infest all parts of the Country. Every One Should go Armed" & "This is the Weapon for Police, Bankers, and Household use.", flap missing & small tear at left, Very Fine, a very rare design.

The company had no manufacturing facilities. The guns were made by Marston and by Bacon Mfg. Co.
