Confederacy, Fort McHenry (Baltimore, Md.). 1864 political prisoner sent from Anton Briggs to his uncle Judge Robert Briggs in Washington, Ohio, franked with U.S. 1861, 3¢ rose (natural s.e. at right) tied by blue "Baltimore, Md., Oct 28, 64" cds's and matching target handstamp, very rare manuscript examiner's marking at top left of Morris R. Spangler who severed only for five days as Post Adjutant (Oct. 28 to Sept 1, 1864), receiving docket at left same day as posted and "appeal Jan/65" docket at right of Judge's scheduled appeal of Anton's encarceration; cover slightly reduced at right, Very Fine, a rare political prisoner usage from Fort McHenry, with only 29 known from this prison, 11 coming from politicial prisoners; with detailed biography & 1999 C.S.A. certificate.

Anton Briggs was imprisoned for his reported involvement in bizarre antiwar plots of overthrow the U.S. government and was associated with clandestine Confederate operations involving the Copperheads.

Homemade cover addressed to Georgetown, Ohio and endorsed "Prisoner of War" at top, pencil "Ex" examiner's marking, "Old Point Comfort, Va., Feb 23" cds and matching "Due 6" in circle handstamp, with original enclosure datelined "Danville, Va., Jan 31/64" and signed "Prisoner No. 5" and a post script from other prisoner, Very Fine, a rare usage from Fortress Monroe with approximately 35 known covers, with detailed biography.

Regt.", Extremely Fine and choice, an outstanding & rare Prisoner of War cover, ex-Haas; with 1981 P.F. certificate.

Logan (rode with Morgan's Raiders) to his wife in Shelbyville, Ky., franked with U.S. 1861, 3c rose tied by blue "Sandusky, O., Dec 9, 64" cds and target duplex, strong strike of "Prisoner's Letter, Johnson's Island, O., Examined CHR" oval handstamp, Very Fine and choice, a very attractive prisoner of war usage from Johnson's Island, with detailed biography.

Confederacy, Letterman General Hospital, Gettysburg, Pa. Inside envelope from "S.W. Branch, 1st Lieut., Co. B, 8th Georgia Regt." with "Richmond Va. Sep. 11, 1863" cds with "Due 10" handstamp & examiner's initials "Ex. F.R.K." (thought to have been applied in Baltimore at top right, cover addressed to his Mother on overpaid drop rate letter to local Richmond address, photocopy of original letter included which mentions, "My health continues to improve slowly. Our treatment here is excellent, the fare for a sick man is very good, but if I could only get some good Homeny & Rice I think I could fatten on it.", Very Fine and choice, a wonderful prisoner cover.

Miller to wife in Berlin, Conn., endorsed Prisoner and pencil Ex HC examiner's marking at light "x F of T" at top left (Flag of Truce), franked with U.S. 1861, 3¢ rose (small tear at left) tied by "Old Point Comfort, Va., Jul 20" cds, docketed in red pen at left which may not be contemporary, F.-V.F., with detailed biography and photocopy of original enclosure datelined "Richmond, Va, July 8th, 1862" regarding private Miller's capture; with detailed biography & 2005 C.S.A. certificate.

Meredith and Gen. Winder telling her to have no fear of sending them as "such packages (arrive) by almost every flag boat", Extremely Fine and choice.
