Great Britain, 1841, 1d red brown. Large margin to in at right, tied by numeral grid cancel on allover "Universal Brotherhood" peace propaganda cover with Valentine, Johnston & Hunter and Ackerman & Co. imprints at bottom, to Glasgow, Scotland with transit and receiving backstamps, few tone spots, Very Fine, ex LeBow. SG No. 8.

Great Britain, 1841, 2d blue, "white lines", horizontal strip of six. Large margins to just shaving right pair at top, tied by "405" barred numeral cancels of Ipswich on 1845 folded letter to Burlington, N.J., bold "L, Sp 18" oval date stamp and red "Boston, Ms., Ship, Oct 6" entry cds with matching "7" handstamp, Extremely Fine and choice, a marvelous multiple on this outstanding Trans-Atlantic cover; with 1996 B.P.A. certificate. SG No. 14.

Great Britain, 1847, 1s green. Tied by "Manchester, Oc 24, 1854" cds on illustrated Ocean Penny Postage propaganda cover with C. Glipin, London imprint on reverse, to Fall River, Mass. with red "21 cents" credit handstamp and partial entry cds's; light cover wear and stamp with toning and tear at top, Fine, still a wonderful transatlantic usage of this propaganda design for cheap ocean mail. SG No. 55.

Lot 1848    

Great Britain, 1855, 1d red brown. Tied by "Aberdeen, De 1, 1856" barred numeral duplex postmark on mourning cover to Bridge Water, Nova Scotia, "5d" debit handstamp and blue "Liverpool, De 2, 1856" transit backstamp, carried by the RMS 'America' on December 6th and was damaged by a storm, returned with mail transferring it to the RMS 'Canada' which left December 12th, "H., N.S., De 23" oval entry backstamp and matching "7½d" due handstamp, receiving backstamp, Very Fine, an interesting usage from Scotland. SG No. 24.

Great Britain, 1856, 1d rose red + 4d rose, horizontal pair. Tied by 171 barred numeral cancels on 1857 cover to Colombo, Ceylon, reverse with "Haddington, Au 24, 1857" origin cds, sent via Marseilles and Suez per 'Valetta' and 'Bentinct' arriving September 28, Very Fine.
