Agua Fria, Cal. (Mariposa). Manuscript postmark on buff cover franked with 1851 3¢ orange brown pair to New York, just tied by manuscript cancel with original enclosure, cover with minor corner wear, F.-V.F., a rare California postmark.

Alleghany, Cal (Sierra County). Crisis straight line postmark, struck twice, on registered cover to New York, NY, franked with 10¢ orange yellow and 3¢ purple with boxed registered handstamp on front, Very Fine, this is the only recorded strike.

Alpha, Cal. (Nevada). Partial strike ties 1851 10¢ type III on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Philadelphia with second strike of cds at left, entire lightly crease & flap torn, F.-V.F., a scarce town postmark & a 3¢ over payment of the 10¢ transcontinental rate.

Angels/May 22/Cal. (Calaveras). Light strike of blue three line postmark (Williams CAL-60) on folded letter to Stockton, Cal., franked with 1851 3¢ dull red (defective) cancelled by matching circle of V's, datelined "Carson Hill 1854", letter reattached internally to outer lettersheet, F.-V.F., only a handful of these exist, ex-Vogel, Oakley & Myerson, illustrated in Simpson.

Benicia, Cal, April 29 (Solano). Ca 1850 (Pre-Statehood) red straight line postmark (Williams SOL-90) on folded letter to San Francisco with manuscript "12½ " for Pacific coast rate during 40¢ rate period, tiny discoloration specks (not affecting marking), Very Fine, one of the finest known of the approximately 6 recorded.
Estimate    $1,500 - 2,000.
