Wheeler, Rutherford & Co.'s Express. Printed frank in banner (Haller FW11) on 1864-65 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, conjunctive use with blue "Wells, Fargo & Co. Marysville Feb. 28" oval datestamp, flap tear which just extends to front affecting the frank, still Very Fine, this partnership was created when Wheeler took in Rutherford as partner, this rare frank was used until Wheeler left in 1865 and Rutherford carried on (removing Wheeler's name from the woodcut frank).

Whiting & Co.'s Feather River Express. Printed frank (Haller FW12, Ty. 2) on 10¢ Green Nesbitt entire (U15) to Lee Mass., carried by Whiting & Co. to the post office, "Meadow Valley Cala. Jan. 23" circular datestamp (ca. 1858-60), fresh and Very Fine, franks from this long-running express (1857-68) are abundant, but early usages to the mails for the East Coast are very scarce and few are of this choice quality.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Whiting & Co.'s Feather River Express. Printed frank (Haller FW12, Ty. 2) on 3¢ Red Star Die entire (U28) to Quincy Cal., no markings, backflap replaced, Fine appearance, extremely rare example of Whiting & Co.'s frank on Star Die entire.

Whitney & Co. Lot of three postal entires, 1st is Whitney printed corner card listing addresses in four towns with black Wells, Fargo & Co. Company frank on 1864-65 3¢ pink entire to Virginia City, cancelled with Wells, Fargo & Co. blue oval handstamp of "Crystal Lake", filing hole, illustrated in Nathan, 2nd & 3rd are 3¢ green entires with Whitney ribbon franks, one indistinct blue Wells, Fargo & Co. oval handstamp, other with San Francisco postmark, F.-V.F.

Paid/Whitney & Co's/Express. Black ribbon frank on 1874-86 3¢ Plimpton entire to San Francisco, Cal., cancelled by Oakland, Cal. cds, Extremely Fine, though Whitney had a handstamp this was the normal practice for the express, pick up somewhere in Alameda or Contra Costa counties and dropped in the Oakland PO for delivery to San Francisco, they purchased the Bamber Express business in 1875.

Whitney & Co. Forwarding Merchants (& Etc.). Printed corner card listing addresses in four towns with black Wells, Fargo & Co. Company frank on 1864-65 3¢ pink entire to Carson City, cancelled with Wells, Fargo & Co. blue oval handstamp of "Sac. Messenger", original matching printed letterhead included, Very Fine and choice.

Wood & Co.'s Express. Black printed ornate frank on 1864-65 3¢ pink entire to Forbestown, the frank has been crossed out by pen & used postally with an Oroville, Cal. cds & grid in blue, entire was then forwarded to Marysville with Forbestown, Cal. cds, reduced at left with large tear affecting frank, Fine and scarce, a rare frank, illustrated in Nathan.
