U.S.P.O. Despatch, Phila, Jan. 19. Octagon date stamp in combination with "Drop, 1ct" in circle handstamp on 1861 local cover, Very Fine, a very scarce 1861 combination usage as after February 27, 1861 the 1¢ drop fee had to be prepaid by stamps, ex Johnstone.

New York, N.Y., U.S. Mail, 1849-50, 1¢ black on buff. Uncancelled on folded letter sheet to Washington, D.C. along with two four-margin 1847 5¢ red browns tied by square grids, postmarked red New York c.d.s., Very Fine. An exceedingly rare usage. Scott value with a single 5¢ 1847 is $3,000; with 1996 P.F. certificate declining opinion as to whether the U.S. Mail local belongs.

"Blood's Despatch, 2 cts.". Rimless circle and Blood's double circle datestamp Oct 29, 2½ P.M. on cover to Philadelphia originating in San Francisco with blue Wells Fargo double circle datestamp, 5 Oct, and matching "Paid" in oval, F.-V.F. A rare example of Wells Fargo using Blood's for a local delivery.
