Hong Kong, 1896 Hong Kong Registered Covers to Europe. 2 covers; to Zurich, Switzerland and Germany via Hong Kong with multiple forwarding, 1) printed "D.S. Dady Burjor, Hong Kong" cover with manuscript "Per English Mail Registered." 30c green (Scott 47) cancelled by "Hong Kong Ap 9 96" cds, paying double 10¢ per half ounce letter rate, plus 10¢ registration fee. Adjacent circular "R" hand-stamp, Proud type RL7 recorded 1884-1903, but seldom seen during this period when rectangular "R Hong Kong GPO" hand-stamp (RL 9) was recorded in use (31.5.94-15.5.96). "Zurich Brf Exp 10.V.96" receiving cds on reverse. 2) Opened out small package wrapper bearing German 10pf +25pf cancelled "Berlin 29 11 97", with red registration label: "Berlin Eingeschrirben R." Originally addressed "Care of American Consulate Singapore", "Singapore De 27 97" cds, forwarded to Hong Kong where "Hong Kong Mr 1 98" cds and oval "U.S.Consulate Hongkong" marking applied. Pair of QV 5c stamps affixed and cancelled "Hong Kong Ap2 98" to forward package to Cincinnati, Ohio. "Registered May 2 1898 St. Paul, Minn." transit cds, with "Supposed Liable To Customs Duty", and "Cincinnati O. May 3 1898" receipt mark; normal signs of wear for such multiple forwarding, F.-V.F. overall.

Hong Kong, 1898 Canton to Berne, Switzerland. Registered combination cover, opened out with on back Imperial Chinese Post 30c carmine cancelled "Canton 7 Oct 98" dollar chop (Chang type 2: 1897-99). On front, pair of Hong Kong QV 10c red with sender's blue pencil security tie marks, cancelled "Hong Kong Oc 8 98", Chinese Post Office "R" (registration mark), and "Yokohama A Marseille L.N. No 10" (Salles type 1.926/10). "Hong Kong Oc 8 98" transit cds, and "Bern 7.XI.98" arrival cds. Carried by French Ligne N Laos; tape stains at top, otherwise Very Fine.

Hong Kong, 1898 Persia to Hong Kong. Registered envelope with Persian 1c and 12c (2) (Scott 104 and 111, an early registered foreign use of 1898 issue stamps), bearing "native" cancels, and manuscript "Registered." On back: seal of the German Vice-Consul "in Buschar" (Bushire), Persian bilingual "Boushir 27 6" cds, "Colombo Jy 12 98" transit cds, and "Hong Kong Jy 26 98" arrival cds, F.-V.F., An amazing origination for an 1898 letter to Hong Kong, particularly one that was registered.

Hong Kong, 1899 Shanghai Registered Combination Postcard to Vienna, Austria. With hand-painted "Opium Smoking" portrait inset on back, with Chinese Imperial Post 4c and 10c, 4c cancelled Shanghai Pa Kua, and 10c cancelled Shanghae dollar chop. Hong Kong QV 2c pair and 10c added over 10c Chinese stamp, and cancelled "Shanghai 9 Ja 99" (BPO). Chinese PO R hand-stamp (Chang type 9-1-1), and Shanghai BPO encircled "R. Hong Kong Ja 13 99" transit cds, undecipherable octagonal French paquebot dater, and "Wien 13.2.99" arrival cds. Carried by French Ligne N Salazie, which reached Marseille 10 Feb 99, Very Fine.

Hong Kong, 1902 Canton & Liu Kung Tau Registered Usages. Two registered covers, Canton to France, and Liu Kung Tau to Switzerland, registered, 1902. 1) Post card to Nimes, France, with partially colored picture of coolies, franked QV 4c and 10c, cancelled "Canton B No 6 02" (Webb type Dii), with encircled R. "Registered Gpo Hong Kong No 7 02", red "Modane A Paris 5 Dec 02", and "Nimes 6 -12 02" arrival CDS. 2) Envelope to Bern, Switzerland, with QV 10c (2) cancelled strong "Liu Kung Tau No 6 02", with no index letter, as recorded by Webb on QV issues, encircled "R" (BPO), and octagonal "Ligne N Paq. Fr. No 7" (Salles type 1.924/7), carried by Annam, which reached Marseille 15 Dec., on back: "Registered GPO Hong Kong No 14 02", and "Bern Briefautg. 15.XII.02", Very Fine.

Hong Kong, 1902 Hong Kong Registered to Peking. Letter from French Consulate at Hong Kong, addressed to Counsel of French Legation at Peking, franked QV 5c yellow (paying less common 5c per ½ ounce inter-port rate) and 10c blue (registration fee), cancelled "Registered GPO Hong Kong Ja 29 02", with Tsang type C registration label, recorded 1900-1903, but seldom seen. Back-stamped Chinese bilingual "Shanghai 1 Feb 02" transit cds, Chinese bilingual, double-oval "Peking Feb 12 1902" (Chang type XIV, over a year earlier than the examples he recorded), and French Post Office "Pekin Chine 13 Fevr 02" arrival cds, Very Fine, this type registration label has not previously been seen on inter-port mail.

Registered letter from Kruse & Co., philatelically franked QV 2c, 4c, 5c, and 10c, and KE 1c, 4c, and 20c, cancelled "Registered GPO Hong Kong Sp 22 03", with Tsang type D registration label, about five examples seen, this earliest (recorded 10.03-11.04), two types of "Hamburg" back-stamp, 26 10 03, Very Fine.

Hong Kong, 1909-12 Hong Kong Registered to London, Canada and Hull, England. 2 items; 1) Envelope to London, Canada, bearing KE 4c and 5c (2) cancelled "Registered Gpo Hong Kong 14 De 09", with rectangular "R Hong Kong No (number) 16 De 09" (Proud RL10: 1905-10). Back-stamps: purple "San Francisco Cal Reg. Div. Jan 13 1910", red "Detroit, Mich. Registered Jan 17, 1910", and triple-circle "London Canada Jan 18 10". 2) KE registered postal stationery envelope with definitive 25c - $2.50 fee schedule (Webb type 5), bearing 4c adhesive to pay one ounce rate to England, cancelled "Registered Gpo Hong Kong 20 Ja 12", with large rectangular "R Hong Kong No 20 Ja 12" (Proud RL12: 1910-16). Also on front: part red London "Registered 12 Fe 12, Hull Fe 12 12", and "___wick Fe 13 12" cds, Very Fine.

Hong Kong, 1916-41 KGV-KGVI Registered Postal Stationery Envelopes. 4 entires; 1) KGV 10c to Boston with definitive 25c - $2.50 fee schedule, later than recorded (Webb type 6: 15 Mar - 5 Dec 13), bearing 10c adhesive to pay one ounce UPU rate, cancelled "Registered Gpo Hong Kong 7 Ju 16", with large rectangular "R Hong Kong No 7 Ju 16" hand-stamp, later than recorded (Proud RL12: 26 Feb 10 - 31 Mar 16). 2) KGV 10c to Kansas City (US), with definitive compensation schedule in Francs and HK $ (Webb type 9: 1926-31), bearing 10c adhesive cancelled by "Registered GPO Hong Kong 29 De 26", and with "R Hong Kong A" registration label (Tsang Type E: 1916-35). 3) KGV 20c to Canton, with imprinted stamp on front and no insurance schedule on back, 3 years earlier than recorded (Webb type 11: only recorded 21 Sep 35), bearing 5c adhesive cancelled by "Registered GPO Hong Kong 7 No 32", and with "R HONG KONG A" registration label (Tsang Type HKFA2: 1928-38). 4) KGVI 25c to Filmore Cal. (US), with imprinted stamp on back and 25c acknowledgment fee (Webb type 13: 1946-48, but a few earlier pre-WWII examples are known), bearing 15c adhesive pair cancelled "Kowloon Hong Kong 20 Fe 41", and with earliest recorded "R Kowloon No." registration label (Tsang Type KLG3: only Feb - Aug 41), Very Fine overall.

Hong Kong, 1921 KGV Registered Postal Stationery Envelope. 10c entire (Size H, Webb type C1: 1917-22) with "China" overprint, additionally franked with "China" Overprints 1c (three singles & pair) + two 10c apparently overpaying the 10c rate for the first ounce, plus 6c for each additional ounce, that was in effect Nov. 1907-Dec. 1922, stamps tied by "Canton B Fe. 16, 21" (Webb type Eii) cds's with "R Canton B.P.O. No." registry handstamp (Proud type R4) at left and Hong Kong and New York registry markings on reverse, F.-V.F.
