Hawaii, Wells Fargo - Hawaii Balance. 3 used items bearing the Hawaiian express frank; unaddressed U.S. 10¢ brown entire with partial Wells, Fargo & Co., San Francisco oval date stamps (tears), frank on U.S. 5¢ Garfield entire addressed to Natal, South Africa posted in San Francisco (stamps over frank removed), and plain envelope to San Francisco franked with 1882, 5¢ ultramarine tied by red 1883 express handstamp, stamps removed at right with collect 10¢ notation; a rare and interesting group.

Hawaii, Wells, Fargo & Co. Express, Honolulu, H.I., Apr 8, 1887. Purple oval date stamp (Shaffer 8-19, 1RRRR) on 1884, 5¢ blue entire with brown express company frank (MH 301.1121) at top left, addressed to New York City, entered the U.S. mails with "Ogden & San. Fran., R.P.O., Apr 16, 1887" cds canceling 5¢ indicia, reverse with New York transit and receiving backstamps, cover bearing uncancelled 1883, 10¢ vermilion which may not have originated on cover; trivial light cover toning, Very Fine, a wonderful Wells, Fargo & Co. express usage from Honolulu, carried on the Ogden & San Francisco railway; with 2005 P.F. certificate stating the 10¢ stamp did not originate which could easily be removed.
Estimate    $2,000 - 3,000.
