J.P. Wharton's Express, Paid. Ornate boxed frank on cover to San Francisco, franked with 1861, 3¢ rose tied by partial blue "Wheeler's Express" cds, black on orange "Wells, Fargo & Co., Express from Marysville" label covering portion of stamp and express handstamp; stamp with minor perf wear, still Very Fine, a wonderful express combination usage and the unique on cover usage of this type frank, with Wharton's connecting with Wheeler's (most likely in La Porte) and Wheeler's with Wells, Fargo & Co. in Marysville for delivery, ex Kramer.
Estimate    $2,500 - 3,500.

Wheeler, Rutherford & Co.'s Express. Black scroll frank on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, canceled by blue "Wheeler's Express, La Porte" circular handstamp, with additional blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Marysville" oval date stamp, F.-V.F., a scarce combination express usage.

Whiting & Co.'s Express. Fancy black box frank on large cover to San Francisco, franked with 1861, 3¢ rose, two singles tied by blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Marysville" oval handstamp, black on orange Wells, Fargo & Co., Marysville label alongside; small cover tear at left, Very Fine, a scarce express combination usage.

Whiting & Co.'s Express, Quincy, Paid. Circular handstamp on locally addressed cover, manuscript "F.B. Whiting" docketing at left; light cover staining, F.-V.F., a very rare usage sent by Expressman proprietor Fenton Berkley Whiting, one of four usages known, Quincy was the headquarters of this express.

Black scroll printed frank on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, canceled by "La Porte Express Co., La Porte, July 13" oval date stamp, additional "Wells, Fargo & Co., Marysville, Jul 14" oval date stamp at top, Very Fine, a very scarce Whiting & Co.'s Feather River Express usage connecting with La Porte Express Co. and then Wells, Fargo & Co. for delivery.

Whiting & Co.'s Feather River Express. Black box printed frank on 1853, 10¢ green entire to South Lee, Mass., entered the mails with "Meadow Valley, Cala., Jan 23" cds (Plumas, Williams unlisted) canceling indicia, Very Fine, a scarce express usage and very rare postmark unlisted in Williams.
