Confederacy, Lake City, Fla., Aug 5. Cds with sans-serif letters, matching straight line "Paid 10" handstamp on turned cover to Camp Cooper, E. Fla., inside addressed to Welaka, E. Fla. and handcarried with 1863 docketing; corner repair at top left, otherwise Very Fine.

Confederacy, Welaka, Fla., Jul 14. Full bold cds on reused adversity cover with pair of Confederate States stamps removed at right & showing small portion of cds, addressed to Hart's Road Station, Fla. R. Road, E. Fla., matching straight line "Paid" handstamp and manuscript "10" rate, 1862 docketing, some light wear, Very Fine, a choice strike & a scarce usage as this is not from the usual "Stephens" correspondence, ex-Meroni.

Confederacy, Richmond, Va., Sep 21, 1861. Cds (Powell type 2b) on A.H. Stephens drop rate cover with straight line "Paid 2" handstamp; docket on reverse, "Wants Mr. Stephens, to lend him $40 or buy him an army repeater", edge repairs and missing bottom flap, Very Fine appearance, a scarce drop usage.

Lot 1386    

Confederacy, Richmond, Va./Jul. 11, 1861. Cds (Powell type 6) with matching "Paid 10" in circle on cover to Mrs. Eliza Forney in Jacksonville, Ala., addressed by General William H. Forney to his wife, reduced at right, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

During the Civil War, Forney entered the Confederate States Army in 1861 as a captain in the 10th Regiment Alabama Infantry, and was successively promoted to major, lieutenant colonel, colonel, and brigadier general. He served until the surrender at Appomattox.

Confederacy, Romney (West) Virginia/Jun. 20, Occupation of West Virginia. Cds with matching straight line "Paid" & "5" rate handstamps on cover addressed to Gordonsville, Va., part of flap torn away, Very Fine, a lovely item from the Confederate occupation of Romney, a very rare cover, very few Confederate stamps reached West Virginia, so most covers originating there were handstamped.
Estimate    $400 - 600.
