Lot 2557    

Wilmington to Sussex, England. Two covers; Entire datelined "Wilmington / Cape Fear / North Carolina April 6th 1755" and carried privately to England by the Favour and endorsed "pr Favour Capt. Alpine". The letter transits London on the 9th June and bears a Bishop mark of that date on reverse.

Entire datelined "Gosport Octbr 6th 1750" to the brother of the writer as per the example from Wilmington. John Eede, the writer states that he is on the "Braganza, Capt. Thos. Hart" awaiting departure for Charles Town, South Carolina "where I hope it will please God to send us safe & me to Cape Fear from thence. The reverse bears the London Bishop mark for 9th October; slight edge wear, otherwise Very Fine.

Lot 2558    

Confederation Period, Boston - Newport R.I. of 1787. Part letter sheet file noted "Frederick Geyer Boston May 26. 1787" put into the Boston post office the same day to receive the "BOSTON" stamp (recorded used February - August 1787). A manuscript "4" applied for the same port to port rate as the Colonial Period. If sent overland then the rate for 67 miles would have been 8d. in sterling converted to 2 penny weight, two light file folds, Very Fine.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Lot 2559    

Kingston, Jamaica to Philadelphia via New York, 1797. Folded letter (in French) carried outside the mails from Kingston and posted at New York, where it received that office's "N*York*May*29" postmark. Neat and attractive, Very Fine.

Lot 2560    

Amsterdam - New York - Providence 1809 Folded Letter with Napoleonic War Content. Reference to "The continued detention of American ships…" possibly causing delay to letter due to Anglo - Austrian alliance against Napoleon. Vessel managed to clear Amsterdam just before the French army entered Vienna. A precursor of the grievances which ultimately led the United States to declare war against Great Britain in 1812, Very Fine.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

(Name of Boat) SHIP MILO/Sailed mar. 27/S.G. BRONSON, Belfast - Boston of 1818. Entire dated "Liverpool 5 March 1818" but held for 12 days before the Milo?s departure. From filing note arrived Boston 23rd April to receive the "SHIP/6". Atlantic transit of 45 days, Very Fine.

Rotterdam - Annapolis - Providence R.I. of 1818. Prices Current dated and posted 20th December 1817 arriving Annapolis 18th February 1818. "SHIP" of Annapolis recorded 1817 - 1830 applied. Charged "27" Cents being 25 Cents for over 400 miles plus 2 Cents ship letter fee. Atlantic transit of 60 days., fresh and Very Fine.

Sailing Ship Telegraph (H. Coffin, Master), Name of Boat Cachet Beautifully Struck on 1819 Cover. from Philadelphia to London, landed at Liverpool and rated 3/2d., being double sheet rate of 2 x 8d. ship letter fee plus 2 x 11d. inland postage to London, Very Fine and rare.

Antwerp - Liverpool - New York - Providence R.I. of 1819, Entire dated "Antwerp February 16, 1819" forwarded privately via Liverpool for the James Munroe. Arrived New York 8th April and charged "20½" Cents being 18½ Cents for under 400 miles plus 2 Cents ship letter fee. Atlantic transit of 39 days., Extremely Fine.

Addressed to Providence, R.I. arriving New York 8th July and Providence 11th. Manuscript charged "57½" cents being 3 x 18½ cents plus 2 cents ship letter fee. Atlantic transit of 60 days, Very Fine and choice.

(Name of Boat) SHIP ATLANTIC/SAILED DECEM. 17/W.MATLOCK, London - Liverpool - New York - Philadelphia. Entire dated "London Decr - 7th & 14th - 1820" being an invoice for books shipped from Liverpool. Arrived New York February 19th as a Ship Letter. Charged in manuscript "1" cents being 2 cents ship letter plus 10 cents for under 80 miles to Philadelphia. Atlantic transit of 45 days; expertly restored cover tear through front, otherwise Very Fine.
Estimate    $1,500 - 2,000.
