1863, 2¢ black. In combination with 1861, 1¢ blue on cover to Aberdeen, Miss., both tied by New York cds, with blue "Mails Suspended" in oval handstamp at lower right applied at the Dead Letter Office in Washington D.C., Very Fine, this suspended mail marking is known used in black in late 1862 to mid 1863, a very rare marking in blue; with 1982 P.F. certificate.

1863, 2¢ black. On 1861, 1¢ Star Die entire to Iowa with manuscript "Barrancas, Fla., 3/3/1865" origin postmark, stamp canceled by "New Orleans, La., Mar 7, '65" transit cds and target duplex, forwarded to Dewitt with "Davenport, Ioa, Mar 20, 1865" cds and matching straight line "Due 3" handstamp, Very Fine, a very rare usages from the Union occupied fort at Barrancas, Florida via New Orleans.

Canceled by segmented cork handstamp on 1864 cover to Galloupe's Island, Boston Harbour, red "Boston, Mass., Feb 9" cds and stamp tied by small "Received, Boston, Feb 9" cds, with original enclosure with some interesting content; couple tiny tears at top, F.-V.F., a rare receiving date stamp from Fort Independence.

Granite City, Western Gulf Blockading Squadron" with advertised and unclaimed handstamps, double franking usages with Nassau Water Department shaded ad cover from Brooklyn, N.Y. to the "U.S. Steamer Glasgow, West Gulf Squadron" (cover defects), other addressed to "U.S. Steamer Tahoma, Eastern Blockading Squadron, Key West, Fla." from Boston, Mass. May 31, '64" cds on cover to Burlington Vt., with original enclosure with interesting content…regiments where away at Johnsons Island & Harpers Ferry…We don't see anything of General Grant yet, he will probably be around inspecting soon., few light toned spots, otherwise Very Fine, ex Allen.

Yates, Nashville, Tenn.", "Washington D.C., Free, Jul 7" cds and "M.C. Meigs" signature free frank handstamp, stamps tied by "Nashville, Ten., Jul 11" cds and cork duplexes paying triple first class rate with 1¢ overpayment; cover edge wear and reduced at right, Fine, an unusual free frank & multiple Blackjack combination usage.

1863-67, 2¢ black, Military and War Related Covers. 36 covers; with three prisoner of war covers including 2¢ black on 1¢ Star die entire (stamp & indicia cut out and hinged backed) from Rock Island Barracks, Ill., two usages from Fort Delaware prison, one franked with 2¢ black + 1¢ blue (1¢ stamp replaced), other with 3¢ rose (collateral), other covers mostly military corner cards including a few with original enclosures, many Adjutant General Office cards from various states including illustrated, with a section of selectmen addressed covers, others including Austin, Tex. drop with Headquarters Fifth Military District, Office Attending Surgeon corner card, few legal size official business covers with multiple frankings, etc.; condition varies, F.-V.F. overall.
