(Illustrated Letter Sheet) Noisy Carrier's "Departure For El Dorado" (Baird 51) illustrated letter sheet with numerous humorous scenes (one page printed on full sheet), undated, used with letter headed "Ranchero Cala June 9th 1854" from a man to his sweetheart (one page), no cover or postal markings, edge wear not affecting the design, Very Fine, ex-Clifford.

(Illustrated Letter Sheet) How the California Mines are Worked (Baird 104) lettersheet showing various types of mining, Wide West Office imprint below, letter datelined "San Andreas, June 25, 1855" with content regarding sending a letter with gold…the second one had a small (chunk) worth 2,50 in it, which I intended for a breast pin for you. and the failure of Adams & Co.I have made some nine hundred dollars and lost it about all six hundred went in when Adams & Co., A.S. Wright failed and two hundred when Page, Bacon & Co. (did).; trivial faint edge toning, Very Fine.

Hutchings "Methods Of Mining" (Baird 107) illustrated letter sheet with numerous scenes (one page printed on full sheet), dated "1855", used with letter headed "Campo Seco July the 10 Cal 1855" from a man to his wife (two pages) telling her "I am to work by the day for… $3.50 per day mining. I hope a long job unless I find a good claim." and, amazingly, "provisions here is very cheap here in the mines….", no cover or postal markings, one short edge tear mended with a stamp hinge, Very Fine, ex-Clifford

(Illustrated Letter Sheet) Hutching's Panoramic Scenes. - Northern California (Baird 110) fresh illustrated lettersheet with six view scenes with descriptions below, with lengthy letter datelined "Badger Hill, California, Dec 24th, 1854", Very Fine and choice, a wonderful California Lettersheet in exceptional condition.

Lot 104

(Illustrated Letter Sheet) Sacramento Union "J Street, Sacramento, On New Year's Day, 1853" (Baird 117) illustrated lettersheet showing a flooded street (top half of one page printed on full sheet), used with letter headed "Sanfrancisco May the 15th 1853" from a woman to her cousin (on bottom half of one page printed plus two more pages) filled with information such as "Sacramento is much larger than you seem to imagine… it has been truly an unfortunate town since the first of November last wholly destroyed by fire… followed by two floods…." and "I will mark on the picture as near I can where our house stood… it was really amusing for us to look down [from upstairs] and see the boats passing…." and "We have moved from Sacramento down here… in consequence of the two floods we were fearful of sickness this summer and William taking the Pilotage of the Steamer Senator gives [him] four days out of the seven down here… he gets three hundred dollars per month, we rent our store and dwelling in Sacramento for three hundred and twenty five dollars per month." and, moving on to the real news, "William is just recovering from three stabs of a knife which nearly proved fatal." (by a passenger on the Steamer Senator at Benicia, with a newspaper clipping giving an account of the incident from the Adams & Co.'s Express messenger on the boat) and finally "I have forgot to mention the birth and death of a son since my residence here.", no cover or postal markings, stained, small bits of missing paper & some of the folds reinforced with stamp hinges, Fine & excellent contents, a rare used lettersheet.

(Illustrated Letter Sheet) La Porte, Sierra County (Baird 129) unused illustrated front of letterhead of town's main street with descriptive text, J.C. Lester imprint, with additional lettersheet front with same title, different main street scene and Dr. E.L. Willard imprint, also included a pension front with red 1859 La Porte cds and manuscript canceled 1857, 10¢ green, type V, strip of three franking, Very Fine.
