(Sacramento) Mormon Island/Cal. Oct. 28, 1851. Manuscript postmark and "10" manuscript rate marking on stampless cover to Bath, Maine, with original letter datelined "Green Barr" from a man to his sister with gold flecks pressed into the seal, edge wear & flap missing, F.-V.F.

(Sacramento) Mormon Island, Cala. Double-lined double oval postmark with "June 28" manuscript date and "10" manuscript rate marking on stampless cover to Milton, Massachusetts, then forwarded fully prepaid from Boston to South Mansfield, Massachusetts, "Paid" manuscript notation added at left & "Boston, Aug 2, 3cts" red cds and "Paid" red straight line handstamp applied at right, Very Fine and choice, a great strike of this marking which is notoriously difficult to find a complete marking, illustrated in Coburn's Letters of Gold (page 314).

(Sacramento) Mormon Island, Cala. Double-lined double oval postmark with "Jan15" handstamped date and "10" in frame handstamped rate marking on stampless cover to Freeport, Illinois, flap torn, Very Fine, an unusually nice strike of this marking with the handstamped date.

Waite, Senate, Cal.", right single cut in at left & small tear at top, left stamp four large margins, Very Fine, a scarce double rate cover; with 2005 P.F. certificate.

(Sacramento) Sacramento City, Cal. Address on California senator John B. Weller free frank cover with "Washington D.C., Free, Jan 17, 1856" balloon cds, to California state senator Benjamin D. Wilson, Very Fine (no photo).
Estimate    $100 - 150.

John B. Weller was California's second senator from 1852 to 1857. He was also California's fifth governor from 1858 to 1860. Benjamin D. Wilson served three terms as a state senator. Mount Wilson in the San Gabriel Mountains is named after him.

"Importers and Dealers in Wagons, Wheelbarrows, All kinds of Coach, Carriage & Wagon" showing Carriage at center, Very Fine and attractive.

(Sacramento) Sacramento, Cal., Collection Balance. 19 covers or folded letters, most 1850's, stampless uses include two 12½ (different rate markings) and one 40, one 5, two 10, one Paid 6, a handstamped 10 with manuscript Paid, and one incoming and forwarded from Sacramento to Vallejo with "Fwd 5" manuscript, stamped covers include one with 1851 3¢ pair tied, one with 1851 10¢ tied, one with 1857 3¢ tied, one with 1857 10¢ tied, one incoming and forwarded from Sacramento to Coloma with "Forwarded" and "3" handstamps, an 1860 3¢ Star Die entire, and an 1866 State Adjutant-General's Office corner card cover with 1863 2¢ Black Jack tied and to a lieutenant in New Mexico Territory, F.-V.F. overall.
