United States Postmaster Provisional and Sanitary Fair Reference Collection. Approximately 150 items on album and stockpages; Provisional issues include Brattleboro, Vt. facsimile and bogus types, New York with a few genuine proofs, one with fake cancel, nice range of facsimiles including Sperati, Senf Bros. creations, J. Allan Mason circular facsimile including "proof" on card, Providence, R.I. with Hussey items including paper types and multiples, St. Louis with modern Ogden reproductions and bogus type, other items including various Exposition sheetlets, Peter Winter creations, etc., Sanitary Fair items includes Albany, N.Y. and Stamford, Conn. forgeries, few genuine items and bogus including Little Wanderers Aid Society and Warren Ave. Church Fair types; some duplication.

Lot 1863

United States Reference Collection. Thousands of stamps mostly on pages in binders; mostly altered genuine stamp and proof material, including several pages of the 1908 coils including pairs, classic issues with cancels removed (with certs), shaved and perf'd card proofs, bluish paper creations, the vast array of forged Washington-Franklin coils and later fake coil waste issues, hoard of Kans-Nebr overprint issues including some genuine, back-of-the-book and some Possessions with various fake overprints and some better genuine, some outright forgeries present including Provisionals, 1930's 2¢ Chicago postal forgery, etc.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

United States Reference Collection. Approximately 80 items on pages in binder; includes section of the 1857, 90¢ issue including a rare early Oneglia forgery as well as other scarce forgery types in duplication, genuine and proof items, 1861, 90¢ fakes (one on Paneli sale card), facsimile Banknote items, 1923 2¢ Boston postal forgery, 1967 13¢ Kennedy forgery block of 70, back-of-the-book items include a 1960 counterfeit Barcelona souvenir card, dollar value State Dept. officials including shaved & perf'd proofs and the various forgeries, etc.

Lot 1865    

A Prisoner's Scam. 4 covers and 3 on piece items from a 2006 correspondence with Adam E. Martin who is severing mandatory life sentence for bank robbery in the federal penitentiary in Beaumont, Tx., each cover bearing a reproduction of various classic stamp issues, includes a fascinating correspondence by Martin including some details regarding his escapades as a bandit.

United States Carrier Reference Collection. In excess of 600 items on album and stock pages in two albums; General issues with a host of reprints and some proofs, forgeries including Taylor's Franklin bogus "essay" in colors, Semi-official issues including Baltimore with scarce "Post Office" forgery types including Lyons type E (the illustrated example), as well as other better and unlisted colors, hoard of Hussey creations in multiples, showing of the "Eye" and "Horse and Rider" forgeries in similar fashion including many scarce items, other strong sections including the Charleston, S.C. with scarce Steinmeyer facsimiles and Philadelphia, Pa. types including Stirling and Ogden creations, Kingman's City Post bogus items, etc.; some duplication to be expected and occasional genuine items, an excellent basis for continuation.

Patton Illustrations. 28 original hand drawn identification diagrams for his local post articles in The Philatelist and book The Private Local Posts of the United States, Volume 1 - New York State, for locals including Swarts, Boutons, Gordons, Glen Haven, Hartford Mail Route, Union Despatch, Boyd's and others.

Boyd's City Express Local Reference Collection. Well over 1,000 items on album and stock pages in album, mix of genuine */o, reprint and facsimiles including many items in multiple format; strong showing of Eagle types with good representation of genuine, reprints including full sheets and the array of forgery (noting one which is not listed in Lyons) and color/paper types, similar "Boyd's City Dispatch" eagle types which include a host of forgeries and genuine including postal stationery cut squares, Mercury Series with a good representation of adhesives as well as postal cut squares including used, "Boyd's City Post" envelope issues including reprint cut squares with blocks and an array of paper types; some heavy duplication and condition varies.

Approximately 700 stamps mounted on pages in album, focus on forgery and reprints with many genuine including some better issues; including California Penny Post Co. forgery and bogus, Carnes forgery types including the original philatelic issues, G. Carter's, Cheever & Towle's with a nice range of forgeries a study of the reprint types including several full sheets, Chicago Penny Post with several genuine and a full reprint sheet, City Despatch Post (N.Y.) with many scarce forgery types, etc.; some modest to moderate duplication to be expected.

Well over 600 stamps on album and stock pages in album; including Clark & Co. with a strong showing of forgeries including many Taylor colors and reprints including sheet of 20, Clinton's, Cornwell's & Cressman, Crosby's with reprint platings, Cummings letter type creations, De Ming's, Down's bogus post, Dupuy & Schenk, some genuine including Empire City Dispatch with horizontal imperf blocks; duplication to be expected.

(Eagle City Post - Guy's City Despatch) Local Reference Collection. Approximately 1,000 stamps on arranged on album and stock pages in album; includes Eagle City Post with circular rays type forgeries and small box type including genuine, bogus type in colors and a study of ad labels, East River Post Office including bogus creations and a good showing of steamship types including a genuine #62L4, Essex Letter Express with genuine bearing a grid corner cancel, large section of Floyd's Penny Post with a few genuine, reprints including various sheets and large blocks, most forgery types represented including scarce forgery types with colors unlisted in Lyons, Franklin City with bogus, Frazer & Co. eagle forgeries, G&H, Gordon's with a strong section of forgeries and color types, Grafflin's and an interesting section of the Guy's City Despatch with the discovery examples of the forgery/trial printing varieties including the "scratch on S" varieties (these are believed to be the only known examples of this variety, see January 1993 The Penny Post article by C. Kane); modest to moderate duplication to expected throughout.
