John Bell Campaign Cover. In red & blue on yellow (L-153) with Jas. A. Thomson imprint, franked with 1857 3¢ dull red tied by neat blue Cincinnati duplex, to Clifton O., Extremely Fine and quite rare.

Bell was one of three candidates to be defeated by Lincoln in the 1860 presidential election, the others being John Breckenridge and Stephen Douglas.

Oval frame portrait in blue (Milgram JF-37, rarity 3) on cover to Buffalo, N.Y., franked with 1851, 3¢ dull red tied by "Urbana, O., Nov 6" cds, interesting pencil docketing…Received Nov 8th, 1856, 4 days after the election of the president of thee United States; small cover stain in lower left corner, otherwise Very Fine, a very rare campaign design in blue (1-5 known), accompanied by 3 different unused Fremont covers.
