Liberia, Grand Bassa, Liberia, 22. Dec. 96. Clear strike of cds (CP.18A) on cover to Cape Palmas, with rubber stamp "P.E. Rectory, G. Bassa" corner card (missionary) and red crayon "Paid", with "Harper, Liberia" rimless cds (CP.12) on reverse; cover slightly reduced at left, missing sideflap and small tear with tape stain at top left, F.-V.F., a very rare internal usage with fee paid in cash.

Liberia, Harper, Liberia. Full clear strike of circular postmark (CP.5) on cover to Boston, Mass., with manuscript "Paid" at center and matching "1/3½" rate alongside, "Per Sh. via England" routing endorsement, red crayon "16" debit and Liverpool transit cds, reverse with "Boston Am. Pkt., Apr 1" entry cds and matching "5" rate handstamp on front, Extremely Fine, a lovely and rare early usage from Harper.

Liberia, Harper, Liberia. Two strikes of brownish circular postmark (CP.5) on cover to the Braithwaite O. Asylum in Freetown, Sierra Leone, with matching straight line "Paid." handstamp and manuscript "4" rate above, additional rate in crayon and reverse with British "Sierra Leone, Sp 18, 1865" rimless receiving cds; slightest reduction at left, F.-V.F., a rare early usage of the first Harper town postmark.

Liberia, Harper, Liberia, Paid. Clear strike of circular frank handstamp (CP.13A) in green on 1869 cover to Rotterdam, Holland, red "Liverpool, Br. Pkt., 20 De 69" transit cds and red crayon accountancy, reverse with partial London transit and receiving cds's; cover edge wear and toning, Fine, still a rare and very early usage of the Harper "Paid" handstamp, unlisted in green.

Bold strike of circular postmark with manuscript date at center, on fresh cover to Cambridge, Mass. with manuscript "7d" rate and red Liverpool transit cds, reverse with New York entry postmark, accompanied by original enclosure from a student of Liberia College appealing for financial support to further his studies…I am a native African youth, who through the providence of God has been brought from heathen darkness to the light of Christianity and Civilization, Extremely Fine, a wonderful cover and letter.
