1863, 2¢ black. In combination with 1861, 10¢ yellow green, horizontal pair, light diagonal crease in left stamp of pair, canceled by straight line "Paid" handstamps on 1863 cover to Callao, Peru, "Kennebunkport, Me., Oct 8" origin cds at left, red "12" credit handstamp over by Panama transit cds, Callao receiving backstamp; cover slightly reduced at left, Very Fine.

Lot 1466    

1863, 2¢ black, horiz. pair + 24¢ lilac. Tied by Maltese Cross cancels on 1864 cover to Germany, postmarks Williamsburgh, N.Y. double circle postmark with red "N.York Br. Pkt./7 Paid" cds & bold magenta "Aachen Franco" handstamp paying the correct 28¢ rate, Very Fine and attractive.

Folded cover franked with single Bootlegged to New York, letter datelined Sonsonate (El Salvador), 20th April 1867, entering the U.S. mails at New York City receiving May 13 cds with Maltese Cross cork killer (file fold through s.e. stamp does not detract), Very Fine appearing and rare usage.

1863, 2¢ black. Folded cover franked with single bootlegged to New York, letter datelined Havana (Cuba) 24th Sep 1864, entering the U.S. mails at New York City, receiving Sep 30 cds with geometric crossroads cork killer, stamp with SE, Very Fine and attractive, very scarce.

1862, 5¢ dark red brown. Two singles (couple tiny perf flaws), tied by bold "Washington, D.C./Mar. 7, 1865" double circle postmark on cover to Hon E.O. Crosby, U.S. Legation in Guatemala with bold blue "2" due handstamp, pencil endorsement "Via Panama" at bottom left, Very Fine and choice, a lovely cover franked with the very rare dark red brown shade to a very tough destination; with clear 2004 P.F. certificate.

1862-66, 5¢ brown + 15¢ black. Used together on especially neat and clean 1868 cover to Zurich, Switzerland and cancelled by segmented cork postmarks, postmarked clear small "Highland, Ill./Feb 4" c.d.s. just to left, manuscript "Via Liverpool", red "5" in circle handstamp and blue four-line transit handstamp (ties 5¢) both on front of cover, red New York transit c.d.s. and Zurich arrival c.d.s. on back, Very Fine, an especially choice example of the rare fifteen-cent North German Union Direct rate (overpaid by 5¢) that was in effect for only three months, ex-Ainsworth.

1863, 5¢ brown. Well centered horiz. pair & single, tied by grid cancels on 1869 cover to Cappeln, Schleswig, Germany, postmarked "Davenport, Ioa." cds purple boxed "Bremen/Franco" handstamp, Very Fine, an attractive cover paying the proper 15¢ rate via Hamburg; with 2005 P.F. certificate which mentions left stamp in pair with a tiny tear & crease at top left, of which we find no evidence of.
