Select group of 6 stampless covers; usages with 1853 blue Gardiner, Me., Norwalk, Ct., red Pawtucket, R.I., 1851 blue Waterville, N.Y., black Brooklyn, N.Y. with red rate and 1853 grayish blue Worcester, Mass. with fancy rate and "Missent" forwarding from Charlestown (sealed cover tear); choice strikes throughout, Very Fine overall with better.

Fayetteville, Ark, Nov 3. Red cds with manuscript date on ca. 1840's folded letter sheet addressed to Stand Waitie in Beaties Prairie, Ark. (Indian territory), manuscript "10" rate, Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Stand Waitie was a leader of the Cherokee Nation and a brigadier general of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He commanded the Confederate Indian cavalry of the Army of the Trans-Mississippi and was the last Confederate general in the field to surrender.

Black Hawk Point C.T., Nov 2, 1863. Unusual first type "custom made" cds on reverse of incoming cover from New Haven, Conn., franked with 1861, 3¢ rose tied by target handstamp, held at post office with straight line "Advertised", "Oct 1" date and "Un-, Claimed" handstamps, Very Fine, a rare trio of auxiliary handstamps from Black Hawk Point, Colorado territory, the Black Hawk Point postmark was used for approximately 10 months in 1863.

Clear strike of cds in red (type III) on a 1846 & 1851 prices current sheets to Fall River, Mass.; 1846 usage with manuscript "2" rate and 1851 use with matching straight line "Paid" and "3" rate handstamps; some light toning, otherwise Very Fine, a scarce usage of this "Paid" handstamp (5-10 known).

Pensacola/Nov. 6. Two-line date stamp (type IIIa) and manuscript "Free" frank on 1821 folded letter from Col. Brooke to General Jesup in Washington D.C.; file folds, Very Fine, the earliest known example of the Pensacola type IIIa postmark, a rare pre-territorial usage during American Military Government Period with only 14 examples known.
