1863-64 New York, N.Y. To Bordeaux, France. Folded letter datelined "Overland - San Francisco, le 28 Dicembre 1863" and forwarded by the merchant/forwarding agent with oval handstamp at bottom left, franked with 1861, 30¢ orange tied by red circle of wedges cancel, "New York, 24, Jan 27" exchange cds and boxed "Supplementary Mail" type A handstamp, Very Fine, an attractive and interesting usage.
Scott No. 71    Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.

Sent via Cunard Line - per steamer Scotia, departing New York on January 27th and arriving at Queenstown on February 5th.

1866 New York, N.Y. To Marseilles, France. Folded circular headed "New York, 26 Mai, 1866", franked with 1863, 2¢ black tied by geometric handstamp paying 2¢ for up to 3 circulars rate, manuscript "Pr. Bremen" endorsement at top and red "15" centimes handstamp per 40 grams due in France, Very Fine.

Cover franked with 1861, 10¢ green + 1863, 5¢ brown tied by "Paducah, Ky., Aug 1" origin cds's, red "Chicago, Ill., Paid 12" circular exchange postmark with credit to France (2¢ British transit, 4¢ French inland & 6¢ sea), red Calais transit cds and "Blidah, Algerie, 27 Aout" receiving backstamp; minor edge erosion at upper right affecting 5¢, otherwise Very Fine, a scarce destination.

Fresh embossed corner card cover franked with 1869, 15¢ brown & blue, type II, two singles tied by cork handstamps and red "Boston, Paid 24, Nov 26" cds, red "Etats Unis, Paq. Fr. No. 2" octagon date stamp and partial receiving backstamp; cover slightly reduced at left, Extremely Fine and choice, a gem double rate usage with very few covers with the 1869, 15¢ Type II processed by the Boston exchange are known; with 1977 P.F. certificate.
