1871 New York, N.Y. To Havre, France. Folded letter with "New York Transit, Feb 1" cds and 4 handstamp debited G.B. (2¢ U.S. inland, 2¢ sea), manuscript "8" decimes due to collect, while endorsed per "Minnesota" of the Guion Line, a check of the sailing data in Hubbard & Winter indicates this ship skipped a turn in the rotation for whatever reason, Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Sent via Guion Line - per the steamer Manhattan, departing New York on February 1st and arriving in Queenstown on February 12th.

1873 Malden, Mass. To Paris, France. Cover franked with 1870, 10¢ brown (s.e. at right) canceled by violet manuscript with matching "Malden, Mass., June 12, 73" postmark at top, red "New York, Paid, Jun 13" exchange cds with red manuscript "6" credit to G.B., forwarded to Geneve, Switzerland with France, 1872, 30c brown (Sc. 62) tied by dotted star cancel, Very Fine, a very scarce combination, ex Gibson.

Cover franked with 1870, 2¢ red brown + 6¢ carmine tied by red cork handstamps, matching "New York, Jul 5" cds and boxed "Supplementary Mail" type A handstamp, "10" due handstamp (double 5 decimes per 7.5 grams for supplementary service) and red London transit backstamp; light crease in 2¢ stamp, otherwise Very Fine, a very unusual Supplementary Mail usage of the 4¢ British Open Mail rate.

Folded letter sheet franked with 1870, 10¢ brown, two singles tied by well struck NYFM cancel, red "New York, Supplementary, Oct 11" type D cds, bold red London transit cds, Very Fine and choice, a scarce supplementary mail marking known used in red from 1873 to 1874.

Folded letter sheet franked with 1873, 10¢ brown tied by crossroads handstamp paying the 10¢ direct steamship rate, red "New York, Jul 25" exchange cds and blue "5" decimes due handstamp; stamp with a few nibbed perf at left, otherwise Very Fine, this being the last direct rate sailing of the French Line prior to the U.S. - French Postal Convention effective August 1, 1874.

1875 Nevada City, Nevada To Villefranche-Sur-Saône, France. 1874, 3¢ green entire with Wells, Fargo & Co. printed frank at top, uprated with 1873, 2¢ brown and tied by "Virginia, City, Nev., Nov 21" cds and negative star duplex, matching "Held For Postage" in circle handstamp with 1873, 3¢ green, two singles affixed over and similarly canceled by "Nov 30" duplex postmark, overpaying 9¢ per 15 grams per the U.S. - French postal convention rate, red "New York, Paid, Dec 7" exchange cds; some gum residue on right 3¢ stamp, Very Fine.
