San Francisco, Cal., Oct 1, 1860 (San Francisco). Clear cds (Williams SAF-530) and matching "30" in circle rate handstamp on double rate folded letter sheet to Nantes, France, manuscript via Panama routing endorsement and "New York, 6, Oct 24" exchange cds, "8" decimes due handstamp for the single rate, Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

This letter falls into the narrow interval between U.S. postal united of weight of ¼ ounce, of which the metric equivalent is 7.09 grams, and the French postal unit of weight, 7.50 grams.

Transit cds and matching "Ship" handstamp on folded letter from Tacna, Peru to New York City, with "Arica, Sp 23, 1861" and "Panama, Oc 3, 1861" transit cds, straight line "Paid - To Panama" handstamp and red crayon 2/- rating, cover overland transit to New York, Very Fine.

San Francisco, Cal., Oct 27, 1864 (San Francisco). Receiving cds on cover from Valparaiso, Chile, with matching "10" rate and "FOREIGN" straight line handstamp, red "Paid -To Panama" handstamp and red crayon "1/-" British postage paid, "Panama, Oc 5, 1864" transit and Valparaiso origin backstamp, Very Fine, an extremely rare use of the San Francisco "FOREIGN" handstamp used for a very short time at the end of 1864, pictured in Coburn's Letters of Gold (pg. 337).

Cds on cover to London, England, blue "Post Office, Victoria V.I." oval Coat of Arms frank handstamp and manuscript 1/- due with red "London, Mr 18, 65" receiving backstamp, with original enclosure datelined "Victoria, January 24/65" and another letter from correspondence from 1863; small cover edge tears and slight soiling, F.-V.F.
