1887-1888, Richwoods & Jays Dispatch Covers. Group of 6 covers, 2 franked with square "Jays Dispatch" adhesives and cancelled by purple horserider handstamp; the others franked with "Richwoods Dispatch" with carrier pigeon design in center, all on different paper types & cancelled by black snowflake design, one very unusual and unlisted example printed on envelope (see photo); cds postmarks of Mount Pleasant or LaHoyt, Iowa.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

These are unlisted in Scott but identified and described in Lyons. James C. Jay operated a to and from the post office delivery service for Richwoods, Iowa from the nearest post office in LaHoyt. He also carried to Mount Pleasant.

Roche's City Dispatch. Red circular handstamp locally address bronze Valentine cover; cover edge toning and wear, missing backflap, Fine, very rare with only 4-5 stampless examples of the handstamp are known.

Lot 1507    

Post Office, Swarts, Chatham Square. Red oval handstamp (a bit faint) on folded letter sent from New York City Feb. 27, 1849 to Laguna, Mexico, where forwarded to addressee, forwarding notation on back, rectangular and oval town markings, "3" rate, F.-V.F., most unusual, evidently taken by Swarts to a private mail forwarder, conveyed to Mexico, then placed into mails and removed once again by a private forwarder.

Towle's City Post, 7 State Street. Red oval handstamp on 1850 folded letter to Boston datelined from Eastport, enclosure mentioning sending a plow by the vessel Admiral, Very Fine.
