Lot 945

1929 $5 Indian. PCGS graded MS-61. The 1929 half eagle is much rarer than its mintage of 662,000 pieces might suggest. Most of the coins were not released into circulation, but rather were retained in federal vaults until the gold Recall Act of 1933. As a result, most of the original mintage was destroyed at the Mint. (PCGS Pop. 25 in MS-61, 251 graded higher, the highest grade being eight MS-65 examples. Total of 310 in all grades, 9/26/11).
Estimate $15,000 - 20,000.

Realized: $27,000
