Confederacy, 1863, 2¢ brown red, top margin gutter block of 4, o.g., upper right stamp with major double transfer, large margins, horizontal crease between rows and couple other light creases, slight toning at bottom, otherwise Very Fine.

Confederacy, 1863, 2¢ brown red, clear to large margins, bright color, tied by "Richmond, Va., Jun 2" cds on 1864 cover with "Confederate States of America, Navy Department, Official Business" semi-official imprint (Dietz type VIII), addressed to Congressman Hon. C. Anderson in Richmond, Va.; cover fade at bottom, Very Fine, an extremely rare drop rate usage on a Navy Department imprint cover and one of the scarcest Navy imprints, ex Hall.

Confederacy, 1863, 2¢ brown red, horizontal pair, clear to mostly large margins, tied by bold targets on wrapper to North Carolina, vertical file fold away from stamps (not mentioned on cert.), Extremely Fine and attractive, This franking probably paid the rate for double weight printed matter. A rare usage of the Two-Cent Jackson issue.; with 2003 P.F. certificate, signed Dietz.

Confederacy, 1863, 2¢ brown red, faulty strip of 3 and pair tied by Mobile, Ala. cds's on folded letter to Augusta, Ga.; Fine appearance, still quite attractive; with 1976 P.F. Certificate noting "some defects".

Scott No. 8a.

The "Paid 10" has no apparent meaning and may have been struck on top of a group of circulars. A Stunning Exhibition Item!
