(Outgoing Philadelphia) 1803 Philadelphia, Pa. To Havre, France, folded letter via Antwerp with red "Colonies Par Anvers" two-line handstamp, manuscript "7" rate, Extremely Fine, an early example of the "Colonies Par Anvers" transit handstamp used between 1803 and 1814.

To France, seven folded letters; 2 sent by British Union Line non-contract sailing ships; 1839 single rate letter to Toulouse "per Packet Ship Sully" with manuscript "16" decimes due, 1843 double rate letter to Paris "pr Ville de Lyon" with manuscript "9" decimes due, both with N.Y. and Le Havre transit postmarks and 5 folded letters prepaid to N.Y. sent by British contract steamship via G.B.; 1849 to Cognac and 1850 to Paris with red "Colonies &c. Art. 13" boxed handstamps, 1853 to Lyon with red "Philada., 5cts Paid" boxed handstamp and "26" decimes due for double rate, 1856 to Cognac with "8" handstamp crossed out and re-rated 13 in manuscript, and 1866 to Staifa, Switzerland with "F./3"0 French debit and "110" rappen due in red crayon; few small flaws, otherwise Very Fine.

Pkt., 23, Apr 18" exchange cds intentionally struck of Philadelphia cds, reverse with red Aachen transit cds and Alpirsbach receiving postmark; with second cover with similar usage to Saxony, Very Fine, former cover the earliest recorded use of this New York exchange marking.
