Lot 1166 o
Baltimore, Md., 1845, 10¢ black on white, In the late 1970's this stamp went to the Philatelic Foundation and with the help of the Weill Brothers lending comparison covers, the stamp was given a good PF certificate to go along with the 3-4 previous signatures of authenticity it had received. The PF then unexpectedly rescinded their opinion. The owner then sent the stamp to get a thorough Spectrophotometric Analysis (again using the Weill Bros. covers for comparison). The conclusion was that the stamp was in line with the Weill specimens, manuscript cancels, Very Fine, a great rarity that could be unique off cover if genuine - obviously sold "as is" with full analysis included.Scott No. 3X2 Estimate $2,000 - 3,000.
