Marks & Co. advertising and bearing black oval Wells, Fargo & Co. dated handstamps and printed company franks, the earlier on 3¢ pink entire with gray shading, later on 3¢ green entire with beige shading and contents (mentions paying the stage company); both with minor soiling, otherwise Very Fine.

Wells Fargo & Co., Salt Lake Cty, U.T., Jun 7, blue oval date stamp on 1864, 3¢ pink entire addressed to Col. Silas Seymour, Consulting Engr. U.P.R.R., Salt Lake House, "City of the Saints", company frank at top; trivial edge nick at top, Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Silas Seymour was an civil engineer from New York. In the winter of 1863-64, he was consulting engineer of the Union Pacific Railroad. He designed the high bridge over Dale Creek Cañon, near the summit of the Black Hills of the Rocky Mountains.
