Madison, Fla./22 Jay 42, type III manuscript postmark and red manuscript "25" rate on cover addressed to Hartley, Lower Canada, routing endorsement "Via New York & Derby Line, Vt." at lower left and manuscript "USP & Col [collect] 3½ + 9 = 2/0½" sterling rate, faint red "Montreal L.C., Feb 12, 1843" transit cds; light edge wear and toning at right, F.-V.F., One of three territorial usages from Madison in private hands, and no doubt, the only one to Canada, ex Thompson.

Magnolia Fla/May 16, very fine strike type II straightline postmark (manuscript day) with with manuscript "1oz" rating and "24" rate for 4-times the 6¢ per ¼ oz. rate under 30 miles on 1834 folded wrapper to Tallahassee; large "PAID" handstamp above manuscript "by L Read Esq" with both surrounded by a manuscript box, faint Tallahassee oval receiver, Fine and most unusual, ex Light.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

The large "PAID" is not recorded for Magnolia and may have, in fact, been applied by the sender, Mr. Read.

Magnolia Fla/Sep, 30., beautiful strike of type II straightline postmark with manuscript "Free, E Seixas, PM." on 1834 folded letter to La Prairie, Lower Canada, manuscript "4½" collect for Canadian postage, red "Montreal, Oct 18" transit and "La Prairie, 22 Oct 34" receiver with ms. date; paper tape repairs, Fine and attractive, ex Meroni, D. Jarrett, Light.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

The letter enquires if family members are affected by the cholera raging in Canada.

Mandarin/May 5th, type II manuscript postmark and "Dble/37½" (double the 18¾ rate) on folded letter sheet to Tallahassee, the letter originally contained local election returns, Very Fine, The Only Recorded Example of the Type II Mandarin Manuscript Postmark, ex Ferrell, Thompson.

Marianna Fla/May 31st, type I manuscript postmark and matching "10" in brown-red on 1829 folded letter to Governor Duval in Tallahassee conveying an invitation from the citizens of Marianna to attend a dinner on the forthcoming Independence Day; some contemporary ink erosion on front, Fine, The FSPH listing example of the type I manuscript postmark, one of only seven recorded, ex McNeal, Thompson.

Marianna/Fl.T./Oct 15/1842, light type V cds in black with manuscript date and "10" rate on folded letter to Tallahassee, F.-V.F. and quite scarce in black.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

The letter contains local election results for Territorial senators and representatives. FSPH notes that the type V postmark had not been confirmed in black at the time of publication in 1999.
