(Pennsylvania) Canonsburgh, Pa., boxed postmark dated "Decr 21" on 1804 stampless folded letter, "Paid" handstamp with manuscript "8"; containing autographed letter signed "George Morgan", datelined "Morganza, Dec 14th 1804", slight soiling does not detract, Very Fine. ASCC $400.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Col. Morgan was a pioneer and 1st U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs; he disclosed to President Jefferson the scheme by Aaron Burr for the partition of Louisiana.

Covers, 1812-1906, group of 20 covers; includes 1812 manuscript, 1830's "Chambg." cds's in red and black with 1831 usage to postmaster in Chamford explaining procedure for mail to "Western States", later free franks, 1864 usage with "Missent" handstamp, few stamped items; condition varies, generally F.-V.F. or better.

(Texas) Galveston Bay, 1st August 1843 (Texas, Republic), dateline on 3-page cross-written letter in which a son proposes starting a cattle ranch in Texas with "Estimated cost & profit on 600 head of cattle for ten years"; postmarked partial blue New York cds and matching straightline "Ship" with blue manuscript "52" rate, Very Fine.

(Utah) Washington, Utah, Jan 21/67, manuscript origin postmark and "Registered No. 4" alongside franking on legal size registered cover to Brigham Young in Great Salt Lake City, U.T. franked with manuscript canceled 1863, 2¢ black + 3¢ rose, horizontal strip of three (slightly crimped perfs); 2¢ with scuff and small nick at bottom and cover missing most of backflap, otherwise Very Fine, a rare Utah territorial registry usage from Washington; with 2009 P.F. certificate.
