Fancy Star within Star, clear strike in bright blue cancels 3¢ rose (65), huge margins, short perf, on 1865 cover to Athol, Mass., matching "Glendale Ms. Oct 2" cds; small tone spot bottom left, Very Fine. Skinner-Eno No. ST-E 25.

Negative Star with Pentagon Center, bold strike duplexed with "Pittsburg Pa. Oct 16" cds ties 1871, 7¢ vermilion, well centered, tiny tear at right, on blue 1873 cover to Leipzig, Germany, red "New York Paid All Br. Transit Oct 18" exchange cds, Leipzig (10.31) arrival backstamp, Very Fine, ex-Boker; with 2002 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 149    Estimate $300 - 400.

This cancel was originally listed by Vlissengen-Waud as a NYFM cancel and included as part of the Boker collection. This cover clearly eminates out of Pittsburgh Pa. and is from the same correspondence as the ST-5P-U1 cancel offered in the prior lot. Weiss talks about this cover on page 154 of his NYFM book.

(NYFM) Four-Ring Target, fine strike cancels 1870, 3¢ green on 3¢ green entire #U82 cancelled by matching strike and addressed to London, England, red "New York Dec 21" exchange cds, carried on the White Star Line Adriatic from New York to Liverpool, red London (1.1) arrival cds; cover split open and repaired, Fine, Illustrated by Weiss in his book on page 261., ex-Boker; with 2002 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 147    Estimate $300 - 400.

It is extremely difficult to confirm off-cover examples of this target cancel as genuine. One of only two examples of this NYFM cancel known on cover.

(NYFM) Radial Geometric, fine strike ties 1861, 30¢ orange (71) on blue 1864 folded cover from Payen correspondence to Lyon, France, endorsed "Steamship Persia", red "New York 'Paid 24' Apr 20" exchange c.d.s., red Calais (5.2.64.) entry c.d.s. and matching large "P.D." framed h.s., Lyon (5.3) arrival backstamp; some edgewear, Very Fine, ex-'Patrick Henry', Skinner, Richards.

(NYFM) Serrated Circle of Wedges, bold strikes tie 1873, 1¢ blue, exceedingly well centered within huge margins, on 1¢ postal card (UX5) to Prussia, 1876 message, crisp strike of red "New York P.O. Jul 15" exchange cds, readdressed in blue ink and forwarded locally, Extremely Fine, a gem NYFM usage, perhaps the finest of the only a few recorded TR-W14 usages.

Star within Circle, bold strike duplexed with "St. Louis Mo. Sep 29" cds ties 1871, 7¢ vermilion, well centered, tiny tear at right, on blue cover to Leipzig, Germany, bold strike of red "New York Paid All Br. Transit Oct 2" exchange cds, Leipzig (10.17) arrival backstamp, Very Fine, ex-Bleuler.
Scott No. 149    Estimate $300 - 400.

This cover proves that Weiss ST-5P-U1 is not a New York foreign mail killer. It clearly eminates out of St. Louis Mo. and an identical use is known. This was first listed by Milliken as a NYFM and later by VW and Weiss as unproven.
