Envelope, 1853, 3¢ Red, Die 1, size 7, knife 2, watermark 1 in rare original configuration on horizontal laid paper, Nesbitt seal on flap, canceled by "Indianapolis, Ind., 3 Paid, Dec 6" cds and addressed to Milbury, Mass., light fold and some slight edge wear, small piece out of bottomflap, still Very Fine and rare. UPSS No. 2.

There are fewer than 50 recorded examples of the rare original watermark configuration on horizontally laid paper (only found on white paper), the two rows of letters have space between them. The common revised watermark configuration on diagonally laid paper has two rows of letters that touch each other, Accompanied by Linns article on early envelopes.
