Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ Blue, margins to barely touched at left, manuscript "X" cancel, on colorful wallpaper cover with brown and blue scroll pattern design, addressed to Hickory Flat, Ala., original letter datelined "Lenoirs P.O. Tennessee, June the 6th 1863", no postmark, Very Fine with great eye-appeal, ex-Bleuler.
Scott No. 11    Estimate $500 - 750.

The acute paper shortage in the South manifested itself in the variety of envelopes which were handmade from numerous materials. Actual wallpaper, generally cut from unused rolls, was widely used and many wallpaper covers are quite colorful and ornate.

Aug 18" cds and addressed to Columbia S.C., folded out for display, Very Fine and beautiful, ex-Kohn.
