Via Boston, 1771 (May 22), datelined folded letter and ALS by Signer Nathaniel Gorham with light strike of red "BOSTON" straightline postmark and bold matching "23 MA" Franklin mark with manuscript "Dwt 4" rating to Philadelphia Pa., Philadelphia "1/10" 1s10d local currency rating, Very Fine.

A SCARCE ALS FROM SIGNER OF DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE NATHANIEL GORHAM.

Nathaniel Gorman was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, May 27, 1738. Mr. Gorham was chosen representative for Charlestown, in 1771, and every year till the commencement of the Revolutionary war. He was a very assiduous attendant on the house of representatives, and was a leader in all their debates. In 1779 he was elected a delegate of the convention which formed the constitution of his native State. In 1784 he was chosen a member of the Congress of the United States, and soon after elected president of that honorable body. In 1787, Mr. Gorham was a member of the grand convention which formed the Federal Constitution. He was one of the most influential members of the State convention, which adopted the constitution.

(New York) Otsego County Postal History Collection, over 900 pre-1940 covers arranged by towns on pages in dozens of binders, with photographs taken of each town by W. Bauer in the 1990's; with many early Postal entire-1940's manuscript postmarks including postmaster free franks, some highlights including Burlington from 1817 manuscript on, Cherry Valley including 1823 small arc postmark in red and 1827 & 1828 straight lines in red, patriotic cover, etc., Cooperstown with 1800 straight line, 1810 arc, 1817 town & county rimless cds, Exeter with 1850's fancy "Paid" and Reverse: rate on mourning cover to San Francisco, Cal., 1869 Hartwick fancy monogram cancel, 1831 Middlefield straight line, Richfield Springs with various EAH postmaster monogram cancels, Schuyler Lake from 1839 PM free frank on, 1850's Springfield box postmark (unlisted in ASCC), Unadilla including 1864 cover to "U.S.S. Unadilla", also a couple dozen R.P.O.'s, express company labels, misc ephemera and covers of Unadilla and Otsego postmarks from other states, generally F.-V.F. or better.
