Sent aboard the American bark "Comet" departing Honolulu on February 5th and arriving in San Francisco on February 22nd.

Hawaii, 1878, 6¢ bluish green, tied by three dots in target handstamp on 1880 cover to Rome, Italy, in combination with U.S. 1879, 5¢ blue tied by light cork, matching "San Francisco, Cal., Aug 10" cds alongside, reverse with "Honolulu, H.I., Jul 30" origin and Rome receiving cds's; 5¢ stamp with some perf toning and nibbed perf at lower left, otherwise Very Fine, a rare convention period mixed franking to a foreign destination, this being one of two known usages to Italy; with 1977 P.F. certificate, signed S. Ashbrook.
