India, 1899 Hand Illustrated Cover, red and black watercolor design by artist Hugh Rose depicting Boy & Squirrel on Vine Silhouette, on 1a on 1a6p orange entire to Santa Lucia, West Indies, canceled by "Sitapur, 25 Se, 99" cds, "St. Lucia, Oc 9" receiving cds below, Very Fine, a wonderful illustrated cover from the King-Harman correspondence.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Rose is considered to be one of the major artist of the British illustrated covers. His designs are noteworthy not only for the excellence of the artwork, but for the geographic origins and destinations. This cover is the only known silhouette watercolor in this correspondence.
