Denver one free frank and two addressed to him, John Sherman 1882 Congressional Record mailing with enclosure, also includes small group of stamped covers with Congress corner cards or mailed from D.C.; some mixed condition, F.-V.F., A wide variety of Senators and Representatives present., ex-Richard Graham Collection.

Samuel "Sam" Houston (1793 - 1863) was a nineteenth-century American statesman, politician, and soldier. He is best known for his leading role in bringing Texas into the United States.

Lot 631    

[Congress] John Randolph, 1806 folded letter with "free, John Randolph" to Philadelphia Pa., "Georgt Mar 21" cds with matching "Free" rating handstamp; edge tear at top, otherwise Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Wildly eccentric in both speech and behavior, Randolph was successively a member of the House of Representatives and a Senator from Virginia. For a short time before his death he was Minister to Russia. He never developed physically as a man. It is said that when he spoke in Congress his high pitched voice rang through the chamber like the sound of an angry vixen.
