Lot 1604 o

1851, 1¢ blue, type III, Position 99R2, showing portions of the erased transfer in scrolls at right, blue town cancel, margins huge to just clear at right with large breaks at top and bottom completely unobstructed by the cancellation, rich bright color, imperceptible tiny corner crease at top right only visible in fluid, otherwise Very Fine; with 2002 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 8    $12,500.

A LOVELY COLOR CANCELED EXAMPLE OF THE 1851, 1¢ IMPERFORATE TYPE III FROM THE THE POSITION BEARING THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF THIS TYPE - POSITION 99R2.

The 99R2 was a fresh entry over an original entry on the plate (portions of which can be seen in the right scrolls), which was short transferred at both the top and bottom. Because of this very short transfer at top and bottom of the design, it produced the widest breaks in the top and bottom outer lines, giving us the finest example of type III.
