Pkt., 47, Dec 7" transit cds, "Per Prussian Closed Mail" endorsement at top and reverse with soldiers endorsement and transit cds's; cover soiling and wear, Fine, still a rare foreign destination usage of a patriotic cover.

Great Battle at Pittsburgh Landing, wonderful red and blue design on cover to Harper Oh., bearing 3¢ rose (65) tied by prison bar grid fancy cancel, matching perfect strike of "Columbus O Jul 3" cds; original illustrated patriotic lettersheets datelined "Camp Chase, July 2nd/62" and showing Soldier's Farewell and second sheet showing General Buell, interesting content including "There is about 1800 or 1900 prisoners here and they are still arriving in squads of from 5 to 50 almost every day…I halted General Allison himself last night & made him give the password & if the President was to come & could not give it he would have to go in the guard house until morning…", Very Fine, A scarce trio of patriotic items., ex-Bleuler.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The Battle of Pittsburgh Landing, or Shiloh, was fought on April 6-7, 1862 in Tennessee. The first major battle of the Civil War with casualties in excess of 20,000 dead and wounded.
