Taylorsville, Cal., Feb 6 (Plumas), ca. 1864 cds with "Ranch" removed and "ville" written in (Williams unlisted) on cover to Erie, Mich., franked with manuscript canceled 1861, 3¢ rose; cover reduced at left, Very Fine, a unique provisional postmark when Taylor's Ranch changed it's name on January 7, 1964.

Business/Free" in semi-circle, design with imprint "Hutchins & Rosenfield, 146 Montgomery Street, San Francisco.", Very Fine and attractive.

Vallejo, Cal., July 10th (Solano), manuscript postmark (SOL-1810, R5) and "5" rate on cover to James Reed in San Jose, manuscript Via San Francisco routing endorsement, with original 1851 enclosure from secretary of state W. Van Voorhies with interesting content regarding construction including temporary State House and thoughts of moving the state capitol to San Jose; cover edge wear, F.-V.F., this is the earliest recorded postmark from the Vallejo post office.
