Nevada City & Meadow Lake Express, printed boxed frank (NCM-001) on 1864, 3¢ pink entire addressed in pencil to Nevada City, 1866 docketing mentioning buying stock in the South Yuba Canal Co., Very Fine, one of three examples recorded of this short-lived express company that ran for less than a year.Estimate $2,000 - 3,000.
Started in 1866, the Nevada City & Meadow Lake Express ran from Meadow Lake to Nevada City connecting with Wells, Fargo & Co. Due to the small amount of gold and heavy winter in Meadow Lake, there was no need for an express after the first year.

This short-lived express company operated in 1874 from Oroville to Quincy as well as from Greenville, Crescent City and Taylorsville.

A number of expresses has blue colored franks that saw limited usage. Their function is still not fully understood by students.
