Devil & Pitchfork in Circle of West Meriden, Conn., bold strike of "West Meriden Conn., Jun. 15" (1866) duplex on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to Providence, R.I., with blue "N.C. Stiles & Co., West Meriden, Conn. Presses and Dies." corner card handstamp, an Extremely Fine strike and cover.
Estimate    $2,000 - 3,000.

It is quite likely that Stiles & Co. was the company that created the fancy Devil & Pitchfork postmark device for the postmaster of West Meriden.

This cancel was commercially prepared from rubber and was struck showing the excellent detail. One of only two recorded examples used from Columbus N.J.
