5th Corps, Red Cross, red patriotic design on cover bearing 3¢ rose (65) tied by split cork cancel duplexed with "Washington D.C. Feb 4" cds to East Pike N.Y., Very Fine, an unlisted design, ex-Graham.

6th Corps, 2d Division, blue Magee patriotic design showing outlined cross on orange cover with bold "Alexandria Va. Jul 12" cds and oval "Due 3" framed handstamp to Upper Gloucester Me., soldier's letter signed by Chaplain at top right; reduced slightly at left, Very Fine, ex-Graham.

Lot 1711    

7th N.H. Regiment, red patriotic design showing soldier, ship, cannon etc., on cover to North Lyndboro N.H. bearing 3¢ rose (65), rich color, cancelled by manuscript squiggle, clear "Fort Jefferson Fla. Mar 17" cds; reduced at right, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

The 7th Regiment, New Hampshire Volunteers was shipped out via New York to Fort Jefferson arriving there on February 12th 1862. Fort Jefferson was the largest of the so-called 'type III' masonry forts in the United States. The fort was only partly completed in 1862, so that most of the troops at the fort lived in wooden sheds and tents on the parade grounds.

9th Corps, 3d Division, red and blue patriotic design with Closson imprint showing Shield with Cannon and Anchor on cover front with bottom flap only bearing 3¢ rose (65) tied by bold cross within circle fancy cancel duplexed with "Harrisburg Nov 14" cds to Philadelphia PA., couple sealed internal cover tears, Fine, ex-Graham.

101st Regiment O.V.I., blue patriotic cover with river scene endorsed "Soldiers Letter" in pencil to Tiffin Oh., blue "Bowling Green Ky, Nov 8 1862" cds and matching "Due 3" rating handstamp, original enclosed letter datelined "Camp near Nashville" to his brother, some interesting content about back home; reduced at right and some toning/soiling, Fine.

Battery "K", 1st Conn. Siege Artillery. Capt. John W. Twiss, illustrated patriotic design showing Cannon on cover bearing 1861, 3¢ rose, minor perf flaws, tied by Washington D.C. duplex to Ansonia Conn., original enclosure datelined "Front of Petersburg Va. Jany 31st 65"; reduced slightly at right, Fine and very rare design.

Letter with interesting war content, "I think this peace movement is only a hoax but as soon as the Spring and Summer Campaigns commence it will be the most desperate of the war if there is as many butchered as last Summer indeed. the need not boast of going to clear Maxamelian out of Mexico the deserters that come in think the war played out but you cannot ever believe a deserter from either sides. any of the union men that are catched deserting he is finished of with Old abes pattent neck-lase or a dozen bullets sent throug him as he sets on his Coffin…".

Corps Division Patriotic Designs, group of 5 different comprising mostly Magee imprints: 5th Corps 2nd Division with Maltese cross, 12th Corps 2nd Division with star, 18th Corps 2nd Division with fancy cross, 3rd Corps 1st Division with diamond, and U.S. Signal Corps with fancy flag design, each bearing 1861, 3¢ rose; few small faults, F.-V.F., a very scarce group of these Corp Division patriotic designs.
