Australia, 1831 London, England to Port Stephens, N.S.W., private ship letter with manuscript "1/4" due rate for double weight letter (4d per ¼oz), endorsed "On the Serve of the Australian Agricl. Compy" and" pr Surry, 12 July 1831" at bottom left, reverse with W. Robertson brown oval forwarders handstamp, red "Sydney, N.S.W., Nov 26, 1832"entry cds, Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

In 1831, this Sydney postmark in red was used to indicate "too late" or "aftertime" letters according to a notice published in 1830.

Australia, 1839 Langollerd to Parramatta, N.S.W., overland letter with manuscript "1/2" due rate for over 400 miles, indistinct box handstamp ("Via Cassilis" ?) and "Midday Mail." oval handstamp applied in Sydney, reverse with "General Post Office, Sydney, Ju 3, 1839" crown oval transit date stamp and circular Parramatta receiver; some slight cover erosion to outer top flap not affecting postmarks, otherwise Very Fine.

Australia, 1844 London, England to Perth, Western Australia, folded letter sheet sent via Malta aboard the H.M.S. Melindera, red "Paid Ship Letter, London, 12 Dec, 1844" oval date stamp and red manuscript "8" rate at left, with manuscript "6" due rate upon arrival indicating a required 6d owing of the addressee for the local delivery of a ½oz ship letter; couple small cover tears, still Very Fine.

Australia, 1846 Port Louis, Mauritius to Launceston, Van Diemen's Land, cover with "per Deborah" ship endorsement and reverse with bold "Mauritius, Post Office, Ap1, 1846" origin cds, manuscript "4" local delivery due rating for letter arriving from parts beyond the seas and delivered within the limits of Launceston, Very Fine.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Australia, 1846 Geelong, N.S.W. to Melbourne, Victoria, folded letter sheet endorsed "Deputy Registrar" to the Resident Judge in Melbourne, red "Free Geelong" boxed handstamp crossed out with manuscript "8" due rating as the post office recognized only the Registrar and not the Deputy Registrar as have free franking privilege, Geelong origin date stamp and Melbourne receiving backstamp, Very Fine.

Australia, 1848 Albany to Perth, Western Australia, fresh folded letter sheet with manuscript "4" inter-colonial rate due, brown boxed "Unpaid, Albany, 26/8/48" handstamp with manuscript date, Very Fine, one of the earliest handstamps used in Western Australia.

Australia, 1851 Sydney, N.S.W. to Adelaide, S.A. forwarded to Burra Burra, folded letter sheet endorsed "Overland" and franked with N.S.W. 1850, 2d blue, two singles (different shades and impressions) tied by barred oval handstamps, "Sydney, New South Wales, My 2, 1851" origin and "Melbourne, Port Phillip, My 8, 1851" transit backstamps, underfranked 8d rate with manuscript "8" due, redirected with additional 8d charge and final "1/4" arrival charge, cover opened and resealed in transit near Adelaide with transit note on innerflap: I have opened this to see how my boys werethe man waits to take this back to town, Very Fine, an unusual and rare inter-colonial usage.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.
