Panama, Colombia 1881, Registration, 10c red on orange, with manuscript "1901", used with Colombia 1883, 10c orange, faults, tied by blue "Panama" oval handstamp on cover to Callao, Peru, two Callao (10.20.83) backstamps with matching "Certificado" handstamp and manuscript "3122" on front; cover tear and edge faults, Fine and rare.

AN EARLY USE OF THE COLOMBIAN F8 REGISTRY STAMP FROM PANAMA, THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE TO PERU.

In 1883, Colombia issued a new registration stamp that was used in Panama until 1888. Domestic registration was not widely used and very few non-philatelic usages have survived. Less than 2,000 registry letters were mailed at Panama during 1883, and manuscript numbers were used.

Beginning in 1886, a numbering machine was used to enter registration numbers in Panama. Colon began using using a numbering machine in 1889. No other town in Panama used a numbering machine until after Panama became Independent.

The two recorded covers indicate that a few sheets of Colombia F9 were included with the shipment of Colombia F10 on yellowish paper that was received in 1890.

San Marino, officially the Republic of San Marino is an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy, situated on the Italian Peninsula on the north-eastern side of the Apennine Mountains. Its size is just over 61 km2 (24 sq mi) with an estimated population of over 30,000 today.

Fr. No. 2, 27 Nov 92" cds and red (12.23) entry cds; cover faults incl. no flap and small edge repair at top, opened on three sides, Fine.

A RARE COMBINATION USE OF THE 1887-88 AND 1892-96 STAMP ISSUE.

This was a double rate cover franked with 30¢ instead of the correct 20¢. The "1695" to the left of the stamps indicates 16.95 grams. The double rate is 15 to 30 grams, whereas the triple rate is over 30 grams but less than 45 grams. Both of these stamps were on sale at the Panama post office at the time of the mailing, since the 1892-96 20¢ value was not issued until January 1, 1895.
