A RARE EXAMPLE OF A REWARD CDV FOR MAIL ROBBERY.

James H. Reed was leader of a band of outlaws who plundered all over Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, California and Oregon. Reed was better known as the husband of Belle Starr, Queen of the Outlaws. Reed specialized in horse rustling and robbing stagecoaches. By 1871, Reed and Starr had a business selling horses in Scyene. Belle looked after the business while Reed stole horses in the Indian Territories which were then sold through the business. This plan worked well as it kept Reed out of the most populous areas where his face was known and where there was a reward for his capture. August 6th 1874, Reed died at the hands of Sheriff John T. Morris in Paris, Texas.
